Yes, we donate to UPonGREEN Environmental Advancement Foundation, Rails to Trails, Red Cross. We have also contributed to Haiti Relief and Katrina Relief.
Recycles - Does your organization recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, batteries, electronics and fluorescent lights throughout the company, including public areas?
We also compost. And we capture rain water for our landscape.
Lighting - Does your organization use high-efficiency lighting approved by Energy Star such as, T8s, T5s, LEDs, CFLs (>75%)?
80%+ are CFLs and we use solar landscape lights
Energy Reduction - Does your organization incorporate specific practices and equipment to reduce energy usage and waste, e.g. grocery store installs doors on all refrigeration areas, retailers install sky lights to reduce daytime electric lighting, office complex paints rooftop white to reduce the demand for air-conditioning usage, etc
Nothing unique at this time. We are not a candidate for solar or wind. We do manage our energy usage through lights, thermostat controls etc, but nothing too advanced.
Office Paper - Does your organization use post-consumer recycled paper throughout all office printers, fax machines & copiers?
All of our office paper has 100% PCW recycled content (now available at Costco). Our business cards have 35% PCW recycled content. We are striving to be a paper-less office.
Temperature - Does your organization manage temperature with an efficient programmable thermostat, adjust it to 68 degrees in the winter and 80 degrees in the summer, and reduce it to the greatest energy efficient setting possible during non-labor hours?
Thermostats are programmable and set well within Energy Star rated recommendations for thermostats. Temps are adjusted for non-work hours.
Transportation - Does your organization promote the use of and/or offer incentives for employees and visitors to use low or no CO2 transportation?
We hope to provide hybrid vehicles for our employees in the future. We currently offer the option to work remotely out of home offices.
Hibernate Computers - Does your organization hibernate the computer monitors after 5 minutes without use and shut the computers down completely during non-work hours (with the exception of POS and/or unique computer systems that cannot or should not hibernate or shut down)?
Yes, our computers hibernate after 5 minutes and are shut down after hours. The screen setting is at a comfortable setting for the eyes, but at energy saving levels.
Unwanted Mail - Has your organization removed their name from unwanted: mail, mailing lists, phone book distribution and unwanted catalogs?
Yes, we have removed our name from white and yellow page phone books, and all catologs and unwanted mail. Additionally, all of our bills are received electronically.
Conserves Water - Does your organization maintain plumbing to prevent leaks, drips and overall water waste? When replacements are necessary, do you install water conserving low-flow/high-pressure fixtures?
We keep our plumbing in good repair to prevent drips and leaks. All of our new fixtures are high pressure/low flow water flow and we have installed Energy Star rated washing appliances. We are about to install dual flush converters for our toilets.
Bottled Water - If you offer plastic bottled water in your organization, do you recycle the bottles? Or does your organization offer and promote drinking water for employees and guests that is either packaged in plant-based bottles or filtered?
We do not purchase bottled water. We drink filtered tap water and reusable bottles when necessary.
Buys Locally - Does your organization buy locally whenever possible (within a 100 mile radius)?
Yes, we buy locally when possible, however sometimes it's hard to find or identify locally produced goods.
Greener Products - Do you offer and/or buy organic, natural, sustainable, and/or renewable products and continue to look for ways to do so (> 20%)?
Yes, we try to purchase organic products as often as possible. More than 20% of our consumables are organic or all natural. We are always looking for new products that meet this criteria.
Promotes Progress - Does your organization encourage the employees, suppliers and others to also publicly communicate their efforts by publishing an eco-profile?
Yes, we are asking all of the businesses and organizations that we do business with to achieve as many of these actions as possible and to publicly share their efforts by creating and publishing an eco-profile.
Energy Audit- Has your organization had an energy audit within the past 24 months?
We have not have an energy audit.
Alternative Energy - Does your organization incorporate the use of ultimate efficiency systems and/or alternative, renewable &/or sustainable energy resources e.g. solar, wind energy, geothermal temperature management, etc?
We are not a candidate for solar or wind at our office due to property orientation and city restrictions. We continue to look for ways to reduce our use of energy resources whenever possible.
